If you go to a Mini specialist nowadays and ask for a new radiator, the chances are you'll be supplied with an ARP2000. This radiator first saw use on Cooper and Cooper S models in 1965 and is immediately distinguished from its predecessor by having a round-topped header tank in place of the original flat-topped variety. Upon closer inspection the ARP2000 can also be seen to have 3 rows of cores with 16 gills per inch, where most previous radiators had 13, providing greater cooling potential. Known by the trade as the 3 row radiator, ARP2000 was fitted to more and more variants of the Mini up to 1980; from around this date it was used on all models (the last ones to change, unsurprisingly, were the 850 Saloon, Van and Pick Up). It is supplied as the standard replacement radiator for all Minis without electric fans.

For those with 1960s and 1970s Minis who still have original flat-topped radiators and would like to keep their engine bay appearance the same (particularly important if you have an earlier radiator with one of those lovely 'Coventry Radiators' plate on it), we do offer a service which takes your radiator, reconditions it with a new core etc. and supplies you the same unit back.

For warmer climates, higher performance cars or if you simply want improved cooling, the C-ARA4442 'Super Cool' radiator is ideal. It is a large-core 2 row design with V-shaped gills and is outstandingly efficient - the manufacturers claim it 'outperforms... any Mini radiator to date'.

For budget-conscious owners we also offer the RA008 radiator, with plastic header tank instead of metal and standard two row core design. While adequate for standard 850 and 1000 models, it is not recommended for use with larger capacity or higher performance engines.

Note that the new radiators listed in this section do not have a drain tap/plug facility. Again, if you wish to retain this original feature on an earlier Mini, you should opt for our reconditioning service on your old radiator.

The two 1275cc Cooper S brackets listed here differ in the reinforcement of the radiator mounting holes. From 1964 to 1967 the bracket had welded to it a single metal strap reinforcing the two holes; from the advent of Mk II production from 1967 onwards the bracket simply had a pair of washers reinforcing the holes instead. The fact that many Cooper S owners want their cars looking exactly right has driven the market to ensure that both variants are available, even though the factory applied the same part number (12G617) to both types and never distinguished between them. If desired, the single strap type bracket can be bent slightly to become a 12G323 bracket for use on 970 and 1071cc models; this was the only difference between them.

Radiator Cowl 1974-92
One Piece Radiator Cowl
ARP1174 is generally supplied as the replacement cowl for all 1974 on models; however cars built between 1974 and 1978 approx. were fitted with a slightly different cowl - when using ARP1174 as a replacement on these cars, one ARP1073 spacer and two CAM4618 bushes must also be fitted to the lower mounting.

Upper Radiator Brackets
Between 1974 and 1978 approx., the upper brackets were of a different design which ceased to be stocked by the factory parts department soon after 1978. The officially published solution for replacement of these brackets was to use the ones listed here, so long as two grommets (either 11G227 or CAM4414 - while technically different, in reality they are interchangeable) and two SH604061 screws with, most importantly, two CAM4415 sleeves are also fitted.

Top and Bottom Radiator Hoses
Technically speaking, if you have an early 1960s Mini still with an original cast iron bodied water pump (not a lot left now) you should connect the original type of bottom hose to it, since cast iron and alloy bodied water pumps have different inlet diameters. If you're a stickler for originality the cast iron pump type bottom hoses are shown here, but it has to be said that in practice the later alloy pump type bottom hoses will comfortably fit a cast iron water pump.

Cylinder Head Bypass Hose
The cylinder head bypass hose was deleted on the Cooper models of 1990-91. The water pump on these models theoretically had the bypass facility blanked off in the casting, although a few cars were fitted with earlier type water pumps with the the bypass hose facility blanked off with rubber plugs. These plugs also come into use on earlier engines if fitting a thermostat blanking sleeve (which necessitates the removal of the bypass hose).
