Heater Hose Kits
Two heater hose kits cover 1959-88 models. The first includes 2 metres of 1/2” hose plus clips for 1959-84 Minis. The second includes 2 metres of 1/2” hose, 1 metre of 5/8” hose, plus clips and connectors to replicate the stepped diameter hoses originally found on 1984-88 cars. Refer to the hose lengths for your Mini listed in this section when trimming hoses to fit.

All Models with Fresh Air Heater (with 5/8" dia. matrix pipes), 1984-88
Note that the hoses listed here have a stepped internal diameter, being 5/8" at one end and 1/2" at the other. The 5/8" end of each hose connects to the heater, the 1/2" end connecting to the water valve or bottom hose, as appropriate. The system described here was used before the brake servo was fitted to the Mini in 1988; for servo fitted models please see the next section of this catalogue.

In the event of the original stepped diameter hoses not being available (a common occurance), stepped hose assemblies can be made up from 1/2" hose and 5/8" hose, sold by the metre, with a reducing connector and one of each hose clip to join the two together:

Water Valves and Tap
The method of governing the hot water supply to the heater matrix via a valve (or simple tap, for recirculatory heaters) on the cylinder head remained the same right the way through to 1988, from which date the arrival of the servo-assisted brake system required a redesign of the heater hose routing.

Water Valve Control Cables
1959-88
From 1959 to 1961, a cable with separate knob displaying 'Push Heater' text was used. This cable can be further distinguished by its round chromed nut locking it to the switch panel. From 1961 to 1968 a cable with non-removable knob also displaying 'Push Heater' text was fitted; this cable originally came in three different lengths, the latter two lengths being for later Cooper and Cooper S models - these are now superseded by the first length (part no. 14A9988), which may also be used if required to replace the original cable on 1959-61 models.

From 1968 a cable with a soft-feel plastic knob was fitted, most easily distinguished by its flame motif which replaced the previous text. This cable is 25" long in its original form; however a 30" long version is also available and is chosen by most customers as it is easier to fit to all of the 1968 on models.
