Exterior Door Lock Components
Exterior door handles for these doors are simple; from 1966 onwards a safety boss (to stop people catching themselves on the handle) was
fitted to the door skin, under the end of the handle. This necessitated a shortening of the handle to accomodate the boss. Therefore, there
are only two styles of exterior handle: 1959-65, and 1966 on. Originally only one lock was fitted, to the handle on the driver's side (from inside the car,
the reverse was the case, with the passenger's lock assembly incorporating a safety catch and the driver's side lock assembly not). All door
handles now supplied are of the locking type.

Pre-cut 'FS' type keys (the most commonly used key type on Minis) are available. To order, simply quote the FS number from your existing keys (or alternatively from the lock barrel, if it has the number stamped on it); the number will be in the range from FS876 - FS955.

Interior Door Lock Components
Interior door handles for the models fitted with these doors are frankly a bit of a muddle. Originally, the more basic models (Standard, Deluxe,
some Super Deluxe, Van and Pick Up) employed a door pull cable, whereas the more upmarket (other Super Deluxe, all Cooper, Riley and
Wolseley) models used a more durable but harder to reach chromed metal handle. As time progressed, owners replaced the failure-prone cables
with either their own contraptions (which varied from bits of string to some which looked convincingly factory-designed, it has to be said) or the
metal handles. Eventually in 1968 the factory admitted defeat with the cables and fitted all models with interior door handles. Nowadays, it's a
matter of practicality versus originality: 'You pays your money, you takes your choice'.

Door Glazing
The very earliest models (1959-60) used unique door glasses and catches. These glasses and catches are not available;
to replace either, later matching glasses and catches can be used.
Later catches are divided into two types. Before 1963, rather tactile chromed metal catches similar in style to the 1959-60 originals were fitted;
subsequently, less durable black and white plastic ones were used.

Door Seals
The type of door seals used on Saloons and Travellers depended on the year, interior trim colour and type - black rubber was the norm, but
coloured fleck was fitted in some instances. True to their utilitarian roots, Vans and Pick Ups always used tan (very early) or black rubber.
